About

Gary Bavis, Real Estate Professional

I guess real estate has always been in my blood. I grew up out east in New Brunswick. My dad always had a small business and built a number of homes. We moved quite a bit because of this. I ended up studying commerce at University and pursued some small business ventures myself.

Fast forward a *few* years and I’m living in Banff, married with 3 beautiful boys. Our oldest and 2 twins were close in age so they were a handful. My wife at the time was a busy surgeon and had a very demanding job. This meant my career took the backseat. My focus was looking after the kids. 3 busy boys plus a super busy spouse… This made for a challenging relationship. We loved our boys but it was tough for me to take the passenger seat. I stayed home with the kids when they were little. I kept busy myself with the kids and a consulting job I started. But it was hard. In the end, a lack of communication and strained dynamic ended our 10 year marriage.

With a switch in life priorities, and newly divorced with growing kids to care for… it was time for me to focus on my career. In a small community, there aren’t too many options and it was tough to find something in my previous skill set. Somehow real estate seemed like a good fit for my personality and my lifestyle. I love this area and with 3 active boys, having flexible work was key.

And that was it. In 2016 I was licensed and started working in Banff with another realtor. I also got my property management certificate which provided some income while I gained experience working in residential real estate.  As I began selling more in Banff, I started transitioning to Canmore.

I love working in both areas and recently moved back to Canmore a couple of years ago. The kids go to school here and I love the area. If I’m not working, you will likely find me on my mountain bike, cruising down the trails.

We love our sports here. Skiing, mountain biking, fat biking, golf, you name it! And I do it all! And my kids do it all too. I love being able to help my clients find a home that suits their needs… whether it’s ski lessons every weekend, or just to enjoy the area once a month. There’s something for everyone and I’m happy to have the local knowledge and lifestyle experience to really guide them.
